Education Ministry Vows Quick SHS Placement Solutions Before School Reopens – Hasmin Mohammed

Government Assures Swift Resolution of SHS Placement Issues

The Ministry of Education has assured parents and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates that all outstanding Senior High School (SHS) placement concerns will be resolved before the reopening date. This commitment comes after a series of efforts to streamline the process and address the challenges faced by students and their families.

During a press briefing following a visit to the National School Placement Resolution Centre in Accra on Thursday, October 9, 2025, the Press Secretary to the Minister of Education, Hasmin Mohammed, highlighted the progress made so far. He expressed satisfaction with the reduction in the large crowds that had initially gathered at the center.

“We have realized that we have been able to decongest the crowd because we have moved in a lot of personnel to attend and listen to their issues and you yourself can now attest to the fact that we have decongested their place.”

This development allows officials at the center to handle the needs of others more efficiently and well before students are due to report to their respective schools. “Going forward we will be attending to their issues with speed and when that is attended then they are satisfied. Then we will not have more crowds gathering here at the official center,” he noted.

When asked whether the ministry was considering postponing the initially announced 18th October as the reopening date for first-year Senior High School students, the press aide stated that there was ample time to address outstanding issues. He mentioned that the minister and his team would assess the success of the exercise and make decisions accordingly.

“Well, we still have much time and when there is the need for that, for that, I think management and higher authorities will take a decision on that. But for now, we are working with the time frame that we have given to ourselves. We believe that we can be able to attend to them.”

In recent weeks, parents and students who visited the SHS Resolution Center at the GNAT Hall have praised the orderly and swift manner in which school placement issues are being resolved. More than 5,000 people turned up at the center, many expressing relief at the efficiency of the process.

This is one of several school placement resolution centers that opened nationwide on Friday, September 18, 2025, to receive complaints from parents and guardians. The centers, set up in major regional capitals, are designed to handle such complaints, verify placement details, and provide quick redress.

Senior education officials, including the Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Clement Apaak, have visited the location to assure parents and candidates of the government’s commitment to resolving all outstanding issues ahead of the scheduled reopening date for new students.

The Mahama administration aims to expand the Free SHS program initiated in 2017 by the former Akufo-Addo government to ensure access to all Ghanaian students while improving the quality of teaching, learning, and infrastructure.
