Owain Wyn Evans, a well-known presenter on BBC Radio 2, has shared an update with his fans about his recent health journey. The 41-year-old, who is also the host of “Homes Under The Hammer,” revealed that he is currently recovering in a hospital after undergoing an emergency procedure.
Evans explained that he had surgery to remove his gallbladder following the discovery of ‘some dodgy polyps.’ He took to Instagram to express his gratitude to the NHS staff, sharing a photo of himself in a hospital gown at Llandough Hospital in Cardiff. In his post, he mentioned that he will be taking some time off work to recover.
The Welsh presenter wrote: ‘Our NHS is amazing. Turns out I had some dodgy polyps in the old gallbladder, so out it came. All fine now. I can’t thank the incredible staff at West Ward 6 and surgical team at Llandough Hospital enough. I’m off work for a bit recovering – being cared for by Nurse Franny and Dr Arran (who despite not being a medical doctor is doing a good job).’
He also highlighted the importance of the NHS, mentioning how it has helped his family over the years with ongoing cancer care for his father and MS for his mother. Additionally, he noted that the NHS literally saved Arran’s life when he was a child. ‘Thank goodness we have it,’ he added.
Fans and fellow BBC colleagues responded with support to his post. DJ Sara Cox joked: ‘Only you could rock a hospital gown off one shoulder, asymmetrical is huge this autumn xxx sending you love for a speedy recovery x.’ Gaby Logan commented: ‘Send you love and a speedy recovery x,’ while Zoe Ball wrote: ‘Heal well darling chap x.’

During the lockdown period, Evans became a familiar face in many households after a video of him drumming to the BBC News theme tune went viral. He later participated in a 24-hour drumathon, raising £2 million for Children in Need.
In 2022, Evans announced that he would be joining the early morning BBC crew at Radio 2 after Vanessa Feltz decided to step down. The former weatherman expressed his excitement about the new role, saying: ‘When I asked my parents for a pair of turntables and a mixing desk from a DJ shop in Llanelli when I was 13, I never allowed myself to dream that one day I’d have my own show on Radio 2! I can’t wait to help kickstart the day on Early Breakfast live from Cardiff. Bore da dahlings as we say in Wales!’
[Homes Under The Hammer] airs on the BBC and iPlayer.
