Britney Spears Denies Knife Claims from Ex

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline’s Public Dispute

Britney Spears’ representatives have responded to recent allegations made by her ex-husband, Kevin Federline. In his new memoir titled You Thought You Knew, Federline claims that Britney used to stand in the doorway of their sons’ bedroom, holding a knife as they slept. This is part of what he describes as an “extremely intimate and transparent” look at his life, including his time with the pop superstar.

Britney, now 43, and Kevin, 47, were together from 2004 to 2007, marrying just three months into their relationship. They had two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, during their marriage. The couple’s divorce was followed by a complicated custody battle.

In an excerpt published in The New York Times, Federline alleged that the boys were afraid to stay at their mother’s home due to her erratic behavior. He wrote that they would sometimes wake up at night to find Britney silently standing in the doorway, watching them sleep, and then saying, “Oh, you’re awake?” before walking away with a knife in her hand.

In the penultimate chapter of his memoir, Federline reportedly added: “The truth is, this situation with Britney feels like it’s racing toward something irreversible.” He claimed that the contents of his book, which was released three days before the second anniversary of Britney’s memoir The Woman In Me on October 21, had not been discussed with the singer.

A representative for Britney commented on the situation, stating: “With news from Kevin’s book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin. All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir.”

Britney’s memoir, which is being adapted into a film directed by Jon M. Chu, includes her perspective on the split from Kevin. She claimed that he “wouldn’t let her in” to see their children. She described being “completely beside [herself] with grief” and “pleading” and “begging” her ex-husband to let her see her “babies.”

Around this time, Britney shaved her head and famously attacked a paparazzi with an umbrella, both of which she detailed in the memoir, saying she was overwhelmed and at breaking point.

Her relationship with her sons, now aged 20 and 18, has remained tentative as they continue to live with their father in Hawaii. However, they have begun to reconcile. In 2022, Jayden told The Daily Mail that he “100 percent thinks it can be fixed.” He added, “It’s just going to take a lot of time and effort. I just want her to get better mentally. When she gets better, I really want to see her again.”

Britney’s mental health has long been a topic of public interest, with her 13-year conservatorship finally ending in 2021. Kevin is also said to have touched on this in his memoir, claiming that the Free Britney movement was more harmful than fans think in another excerpt.

He reportedly wrote: “It’s become impossible to pretend everything’s OK. From where I sit, the clock is ticking, and we’re getting close to the 11th hour. Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces.”

“Now, more than ever, [our children] need your support. I’ve been their buffer for years, but now it’s bigger than me. It’s time to sound the alarm.”

In a post after the conservatorship was lifted, Britney called it “the best day ever” and described the experience as “traumatic” and “abusive.”
