The Inbetweeners Reunion: A New Chapter for the Hilariously Awkward Quartet
The beloved British comedy series The Inbetweeners is making a potential comeback, sparking excitement among fans who have been eagerly awaiting its return. Originally airing on E4 in 2008, the show quickly became a cultural phenomenon, known for its raw humor and unforgettable characters. Over the years, it has spawned two films and a legacy of awkward, cringeworthy moments that continue to be quoted by fans.
The creators of the show, Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, recently shared their enthusiasm about the potential return of the series. In a statement, they expressed their excitement, saying, “Incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh friends).” This announcement has set the stage for what could be an exciting new chapter for the show.
Joe Thomas, who played the spiky-haired Simon in the original series, has also spoken about the possibility of a reunion. At 41, Thomas is open to the idea of reuniting with his co-stars but has also issued a warning to fans about what to expect from a potential reboot.
“I feel enormously close to all those people and, obviously, I love spending time with them,” Thomas told The Sun. “If there was an opportunity to spend more time with them in any capacity, I’d love that… that’s pretty much all I can say.”
While the details of the return remain unclear, production companies Banijay UK and Fudge Park Productions have reached an agreement that paves the way for the return of this hit comedy. However, the exact platform and format of the show are still under discussion.

Despite the excitement, Thomas has also highlighted some challenges that come with bringing back the characters as adults. He pointed out that the show’s humor was rooted in the delusions and naivety of its teenage characters. As the actors age, their perspectives may change, which could affect the show’s comedic appeal.
“I think wisdom does not make a very good narrative. The Inbetweeners is full of characters who are delusional to a large extent,” Thomas explained. “Simon is naïve and romantic and thinks that he’s going to have this love story and Will is pompous, he’s intellectually delusional. Neil’s obviously stupid and Jay’s clearly delusional. He thinks that he’s this kind of sex god when actually he’s just this very vulnerable young man.”
He continued, “When you get older, your delusions fall away, you look at life as it is. It means you get into less stupid situations I suppose, also the challenges get bigger you can make larger mistakes when you get older.”
Fan Reactions and Future Prospects
As the news of a potential return spreads, fans are divided on whether they are excited or skeptical. A poll conducted by the outlet asked, “Are you excited for an Inbetweeners comeback?” The options included “Yes,” “No,” and “The jury’s out.” The results reflect the mixed feelings many fans have about the show’s possible return.
For now, fans can still enjoy the original series on Channel 4. With its availability on streaming platforms, the show continues to attract new audiences while reminding longtime fans of its unique brand of humor.
