A Tragic Fire at Alexander O’Neal’s Minnesota Home
A recent incident at the home of renowned R&B singer Alexander O’Neal and his wife Cynthia has left the couple in critical condition, highlighting the dangers of unexpected emergencies. The event unfolded on a Friday morning when the couple was rushed to the hospital after a fire broke out in their Minnesota apartment.
According to Cynthia, the origin of the fire could be traced back to Alexander’s oxygen tube. She shared with TMZ that she noticed “a bubble of fire” in the cord of the oxygen machine after he woke her up during the night to alert her of the emergency. This alarming discovery led to a chaotic situation as the couple tried to manage the unfolding crisis.
Alexander, who had previously been released from the ICU after a nearly two-week stay for bacterial pneumonia and an enlarged heart, found himself in another medical emergency. The fire spread quickly, with flames reaching the mattress and forcing the couple to evacuate their home. They called 911, but not before Alexander attempted to stomp out the fire on the floor, which resulted in burns on his bare foot.
The couple faced significant challenges during the evacuation due to Alexander’s health issues. They could only take a few steps at a time, and both inhaled a considerable amount of smoke. While Cynthia was eventually released from the hospital, Alexander remained under medical care for lung testing.
Cynthia returned to their home in Burnsville and described the scene as devastating. “The whole place is totally demolished. There was nothing left. There was water up to my ankles,” she told TMZ. The fire also damaged four units in total, and authorities are currently investigating the cause.
Despite the tragedy, the couple remains resilient. Alexander was discharged from the hospital later on Friday, and they are staying with a family member. “We are so happy to be alive. We may not have a toothbrush, but we have a car! Our spirits remain good and we are moving forward,” Cynthia shared.
The couple, who married in June 2024, have been together for decades. In late October, Alexander celebrated Cynthia’s birthday on Instagram, writing, “Happy Birthday to Cynthia – my amazing wife, friend and manager ..Much love, Alex xx.”
Alexander began his music career with R&B group Flyte Tyme, who later became Prince’s backing band. He then launched a successful solo career. His journey in the entertainment industry has been marked by various experiences, including his participation in Celebrity Big Brother in January 2015. Although he exited the show early due to a conflict with Perez Hilton, he left with a memorable message to his housemates: “No man taunts me ever. You don’t play with me.”
