After residing at a shelter for over three years, a dog endearingly called ‘Captain Cuddles’ has finally found his forever home, bringing immense joy to his new owner.
Captain, an 11-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross, spent a remarkable 1,165 days at the Dogs Trust Glasgow before meeting Tom Gallacher earlier this year.
Mr. Gallacher, who tragically lost his cherished dog Ben in 2021, contacted the animal welfare organisation with a specific request: he was looking for an older dog, one with health challenges, or a long-term resident in need of a loving home.

It was there that he discovered Captain, who had been under the care of Dogs Trust since December 2021, spending the last three Christmases with the charity.
Despite his loving nature, his fondness for showering staff with kisses, and his penchant for cosy cuddles on the sofa, Captain only encountered one prospective family during his three long years in the kennels.
However, Mr. Gallacher, from Wishaw, Lanarkshire, felt an immediate bond with the dog.
He expressed, “The moment I met him, I knew he was my dog. He clearly had so much affection to offer, but no one to share it with. All he needed was an opportunity.”
“I am incredibly excited about our first Christmas together, especially as he also celebrates his birthday in December when he will be 12. I am planning a party with a cake and many, many gifts.”
