Manchester United delivered a resounding 4-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, and the performance drew high praise from Tottenham Hotspur’s James Maddison, who singled out two Red Devils for special commendation.

The match at Molineux saw Manchester United rediscover their winning form in convincing fashion against a Wolves side languishing at the bottom of the league table. Bruno Fernandes, the United captain, initiated the scoring spree in the first half, but Wolves managed to level the score just before the halftime whistle through Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.

The second half witnessed a renewed vigour from United. Bryan Mbeumo swiftly restored their lead, followed by a well-taken goal from Mason Mount that effectively sealed the victory. Fernandes then added his second goal of the night, further compounding Wolves’ woes and condemning them to their 13th defeat in 15 games.

Despite their triumph, Manchester United remain outside the coveted Champions League qualification spots.

Maddison, currently sidelined due to injury, was particularly impressed by the contributions of Fernandes and Mount during United’s dominant display against Wolves.

“Bruno was at the heart of everything tonight,” Maddison observed during his analysis on Sky Sports. “He’s such a top player.”

Maddison went on to suggest that Fernandes’ consistent excellence is often overlooked. “I actually think Bruno’s underrated. I know he gets his plaudits but I think he’s underrated for the consistency he shows regularly. Every time he is on the ball, he can just see it all.”

Addressing Mount directly, Maddison added: “I haven’t got a question but I just wanted to say I thought you were brilliant tonight. There were so many touches of class – you look like you’re back to your best. You’re such a great guy off the pitch as well so it’s a pleasure to see you playing like that.”

Mount himself expressed his satisfaction with his contribution to Manchester United’s victory, a result that brought the Red Devils level on points with his former club, Chelsea. “It was an important win for us,” Mount stated.

Reflecting on the match, Mount acknowledged the team’s frustration at conceding a goal just before halftime. “Obviously, first half we let them back in it before half-time and we go into the changing room frustrated and disappointed with the end to the first half.”

He credited the manager’s halftime team talk for inspiring a more purposeful attacking display in the second half. “The manager had a few things to say and we come out there and it was down to us to attack with purpose and finish our chances we were creating. We’re happy with the second half, parts of the first half as well. Overall, very happy with that.”

When asked if he felt he was returning to his peak form after a somewhat shaky start to his Manchester United career, Mount responded: “Anytime I play I obviously want to play to the best of my ability and perform. I’ve had setbacks. I’ve had difficult times, I feel now I’m ready to keep pushing on and building on these performances.”

Mount emphasized the importance of scoring goals for a forward player and reiterated his commitment to continued hard work. “Getting in the goals, that’s the most important thing as a forward player and just keep going and working hard. That’s exactly what I’m focusing on now.”

Here’s a breakdown of key talking points from the match:
