Tearful Balvinder Sopal Finds Comfort in Motsi Mabuse

Emotional Performance on Strictly Come Dancing

Balvinder Sopal delivered one of the most emotional performances of her time on Strictly Come Dancing, earning her the highest score she has ever received. Her Viennese Waltz to the song “Never Enough” from The Greatest Showman was a standout moment that left both the judges and fans deeply moved.

Balvinder and her professional partner Julian Caillon have faced many challenges throughout the competition. They became the first couple in the show’s history to survive five dance-offs, which made their journey all the more remarkable. As they entered week 11, they took to the dancefloor for the musicals special, showcasing their dedication and perseverance.

Their performance of the Viennese Waltz earned them a total of 35 points, which is their highest score to date. This achievement was especially significant given the emotional struggles they had faced in previous weeks. Balvinder was clearly overwhelmed by the praise from the judges, and at one point, she broke down in tears.

Motsi Mabuse, one of the judges, noticed Balvinder’s emotional state and decided to offer her comfort. She ran down to give Balvinder a hug, expressing how proud she was of her. Motsi said, “Whatever you wanted to say for the last weeks came out through that dance.” She also acknowledged the difficulty of the competition, saying, “It must be really demoralising what you have been through in this competition.”

The emotional impact of the performance was not limited to the judges. Viewers on social media were equally moved, sharing their support for Balvinder. Many commented on how inspiring her performance was, with one user writing, “Balvinder Sopal the woman you are.” Another user said, “I’m not crying, you’re crying. No… wait, that is me. One of my favourite dances this season.”

Each of the judges gave Balvinder and Julian a score of nine points, with Craig Revel Horwood being the only one to give an eight. He pointed out an issue with Balvinder’s arm placement, stating that “they need to extend from the body, not just the shoulder.” Despite this criticism, it did not detract from the overall success of their performance.

Shirley Ballas praised Balvinder’s performance, saying, “You will always be a hero for me.” She highlighted the sensitivity, grace, charm, beauty, and determination that Balvinder displayed during the dance. Anton Du Beke also expressed his admiration, saying, “It was sensitivity, grace, charm, beauty, determination.” He described the beginning of the performance as “exquisite.”

After the performance, Balvinder spoke to Claudia Winkleman, expressing her gratitude for the support she had received. She said, “I have waited all competition for that feeling, and I’m so grateful.” She also mentioned how much the performance meant to her, adding, “It’s blown my heart to love this and to do justice to that song.”

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One and iPlayer on Sunday at 7:45pm. Fans can look forward to more exciting performances and emotional moments from the contestants.
