A Heartfelt Message from the Prince of Wales
The Prince of Wales has expressed his immense admiration for Kevin Sinfield as he approaches the conclusion of his remarkable challenge to complete seven ultramarathons in seven days. This initiative is aimed at raising funds for motor neurone disease (MND) research and support. In a personal message shared on social media, William described Sinfield’s efforts as “incredible,” while humorously advising him to take care of his knees.
William, who is 43 years old, commended Sinfield’s dedication to his late friend Rob Burrow and all those impacted by MND, calling it “truly inspiring.” Sinfield’s journey began on Monday with the 7 in 7: Together challenge, marking his sixth annual event to support the MND community. This effort follows Burrow’s diagnosis with the incurable and life-limiting disease in 2019.
So far, Sinfield has successfully raised over £10 million for MND research and support for affected families. He also surpassed his fundraising target of £777,777 for MND charities during this week’s multiple marathons.
The name of the 7 in 7 challenges is derived from Burrow’s former shirt number.

Sinfield is expected to finish his challenge on December 7 at the Rhinos’ AMT Headingley Stadium in Leeds. In a post on X, William wrote:
“Kevin, huge congratulations on nearing the finish of your incredible 7 in 7 challenge! Your commitment to Rob and everyone affected by MND is truly inspiring. Thank you for shining a light on the need for research and support, and for the hope and example you bring. Look after those knees! W.”
William honored both Sinfield and Burrow with Commanders of the Order of the British Empire (CBEs) at the Rhinos’ Headingley Stadium in January 2024. Burrow passed away five months later at the age of 41 after a four-and-a-half-year battle with MND. Following his diagnosis, Burrow dedicated himself to raising awareness and funds for treatment and research into the disease.

The prince has pledged to return to open the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease, which he did last month. He joined Sinfield, Burrow’s three children—Macy, Maya, and Jackson—and his widow Lindsey.
Sinfield, currently serving as a coach with the England rugby union team, famously carried Burrow over the finish line at the Leeds Marathon in 2023. His continued efforts reflect the deep bond between the two friends and their shared commitment to making a difference in the fight against MND.
The Legacy of Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield
Rob Burrow’s unwavering friendship with Kevin Sinfield has inspired millions through their emotional marathon feats and charitable crusade against MND. Their journey highlights the power of friendship and determination in the face of adversity. Burrow’s unyielding spirit and CBE honor have illuminated his MND journey and enduring friendship with Sinfield, serving as a beacon of hope for others.
Sinfield’s incredible MND fundraising efforts are redefining his passion beyond the rugby field as he tackles his newest endurance challenge. His dedication continues to inspire people across the globe, showing that even in the darkest times, there is always hope.
Prince William and Kate have shared heartfelt messages with Sinfield on his latest charity challenge for his fallen teammate. These messages reflect the deep respect and admiration they hold for Sinfield’s efforts and the impact he has made in the fight against MND.
