Wii U’s First Year Outshined Switch 2

A Disappointed Switch 2 Owner Shares Their Experience

A reader has expressed their disappointment with the initial year of the Switch 2, particularly highlighting the lack of enjoyment they’ve experienced compared to previous Nintendo consoles. They mentioned that despite the console’s impressive lineup of first-party games, none of them have resonated with them as strongly as they had hoped.

The reader admitted that they regret purchasing the Switch 2, although they don’t consider it the worst financial decision they’ve made. They believe that in a few years, the console might prove to be worth the investment. However, the first year has been underwhelming for them, especially when compared to the success of the original Switch.

They noted that the first year of the Switch 1 was remarkable, arguably the best in console history. Despite the Switch 2 having numerous first-party titles, none of these games have captured their interest. The reader found Mario Kart World to be unexciting and not as enjoyable as its predecessor. They also mentioned that they are not interested in playing Hyrule Warriors or Kirby Air Riders, as they already know what to expect from these games based on previous releases.

Among the available titles, Donkey Kong Bananza is considered the best by the reader, but it still hasn’t provided the same level of excitement as Super Mario Odyssey or other 3D Mario games.

After reading reviews, the reader decided not to purchase Prime 4, as it appears to have made several questionable choices. They described the experience with the Switch 2 as disappointing and felt that they had more fun with the Wii U during its first year.

A Nostalgic Look at the Wii U

The reader admitted that their comments are essentially an appreciation letter for Nintendo Land, acknowledging that the Wii U didn’t have many great games in its first year, or even at all. However, the third-party support for the Wii U was stronger, featuring popular titles such as:

  • Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2
  • Assassin’s Creed 3
  • Batman: Arkham City
  • FIFA Soccer 13
  • Mass Effect 3
  • Skylanders Giants
  • Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed

Although this support dwindled quickly, the reader found it more convincing than the current lineup of the Switch 2. They also appreciated exclusive titles like ZombiU, which they considered a clever roguelike zombie game, and New Super Mario Bros. U, which, while not the best 2D Mario title, offered a fun co-op mode.

The reader also enjoyed Sonic And All-Stars Racing Transformed, stating that they had more fun with it than with Mario Kart World or CrossWorlds.
