Weekend Chill: Dangerous Cold & Wind Chills Ahead

The upcoming 12 hours promise continued frigid temperatures across the region, with wind chill values expected to remain dangerously low. This deep freeze is set to persist through the remainder of the weekend, making outdoor activities challenging and requiring extreme caution. By Sunday morning, temperatures will struggle to climb into positive territory, underscoring the severity of the cold snap. However, a shift in weather patterns is on the horizon for the new week, bringing milder conditions and the potential for mixed precipitation in the form of rain and snow showers.

Weekend Outlook: Bitter Cold Continues

The First Alert Weather Day remains in effect through Sunday morning, signaling that the extreme cold will continue to be a dominant factor. Residents are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions against the frigid air.

Saturday Night into Sunday Morning:
* Expect a few clouds overhead, but the primary concern will be the extreme cold.
* Lows are predicted to reach the low to mid 10s below zero by daybreak.
* Wind chill values will be particularly hazardous, ranging from -25° to -35°. These conditions can lead to frostbite and hypothermia in a matter of minutes if exposed skin is not adequately protected.

Sunday:
* The day will feature a mix of sun and clouds, but the cold will not relent.
* High temperatures will struggle to reach the low to mid single digits.
* Wind chills will remain in the 0° to -15° range, still posing a significant risk for exposed individuals.

The New Week: A Gradual Warming Trend

As the work and school week begins, a noticeable shift towards milder temperatures is anticipated. While the start of the week will still see some cloud cover, the biting cold of the weekend will begin to recede.

Monday:
* The day is expected to bring a mix of sun and clouds.
* Temperatures will rise to around 20 degrees Fahrenheit, a welcome reprieve from the weekend’s extreme cold.

Tuesday:
* Cloudiness will increase on Tuesday.
* Temperatures are forecast to climb above freezing, reaching the low to mid 30s. This will mark a significant departure from the sub-zero readings experienced over the weekend.

Looking Ahead: The Next Weather System Arrives

The latter half of the week will see the arrival of a new weather system, bringing a chance for precipitation and a return to more dynamic weather conditions.

Wednesday:
* The day will feature a blend of clouds and sunshine.
* Daytime temperatures are expected to reach the mid 30s.

Wednesday Night into Thursday:
* A First Alert has been issued for the approaching weather maker.
* This system will bring a mix of rain and snow showers on Wednesday night.
* By Thursday, the precipitation is expected to transition to snow showers.
* Thursday will be breezy, with temperatures starting in the 30s during the morning and dropping back into the 20s by the afternoon.

Friday and Saturday:
* Conditions will become brisk on Friday and continue into Saturday.
* There is a chance of snow showers on Friday.
* Scattered snow showers are expected on Saturday.
* High temperatures on Friday are forecast to be in the upper 10s.
